Shouldn’t dating be easier? Considering the fear of fake dating profiles, ghosting,  and the sheer time and expense it takes to find a match, it’s no wonder that modern dating is hard. If you think dating today is harder than it was in our parents’ generation or even ten or fifteen years ago, you’re not alone.

Nearly half of Americans think dating is more difficult now than it was 10 years ago, according to a 2020 Pew survey. There are a myriad of reasons why dating is so hard, and although changes in social norms, the rise of technology, and social media have made some facets of dating easier, it has complicated others.
If you’re currently out in the dating world, odds are high you’re using a dating app. These days, nearly 40% of people report meeting their significant other online. Still, most daters say their dating lives aren’t going well and it’s difficult to date.  “The best places for women to meet men are the supermarket or home improvement store. Just walk up to the guy and ask him a question about what he’s purchasing! It works every time!” according to Lynn Carr, author of “Shouldn’t Dating Be Easier?” Carr, who interviewed more than 4,000 single men and women, says she began researching dating when she realized that many of her attractive and intelligent friends were single and wondering what they’re doing wrong.
Carr’s advice is spot-on. For a little more than a year, single women have been  looking confused in the lumber aisle and stargazing in the lighting aisle at Home Depot in an effort to meet men. Popularized by TikTok, the trend of “Home Depot Dating” recently amassed some 3.7 billion views, with both men and women sharing their successful pickup lines and short reels of the best “meet-your-soulmate” situations. The big box chain is also cashing in on the dating movement sharing cute videos of their store mascots on social media..
In today’s hookup culture, when it comes to matters of the heart, one thing is certain, courtship is just an old fashioned word and the convenience of modern dating is falling short. Tune in to Jewish Singles Radio tonight when we speak with author Lynn Carr about dating strategies and how to meet, develop and maintain a relationship.
