Rundown of Possible Major Changes for the Philadelphia Eagles
It was a sad end to the season. The Philadelphia Eagles fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a lop-sided 32-9 loss down in Florida on Monday (Jan. 15). Now, everyone is talking about major changes for the Philadelphia Eagles up ahead. Because, really, something has to change. It’s crazy to see the defending NFC champions out this early in the postseason. So, let’s get into those possible changes for the Eagles. Of course, these aren’t all of the changes, but they account for a lot. There’s also talk of beefing up the defense (duh) and bringing on a high-quality third wideout. Let’s fly once again, Eagles, next season.
Coaching Staff Changes Are Inevitable
Even before the game, Brandon Graham indicated that major coaching changes are coming to the Eagles. “We know next year the team is going to be different,” he said (via Sports Illustrated). “The coaches are going to be different, everything’s going to be different, so it’s more about trying to take advantage and help some people with what’s going to happen next year.”
Is Nick Sirianni Out? Maybe
Sirianni has led this team to the playoffs in all three of his seasons as head coach, which is pretty remarkable. But, there are definite demands for the Eagles to part ways with him. Plus, ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently noted that franchise owner Jeffrey Lurie isn’t your normal owner and might opt for the split, even if it’s a bit unconventional. “The wild card to all of this, of course, is what does the owner Jeffrey Lurie think?” Schefter said on Sunday’s NFL Countdown. “And nobody really knows that. It’s not like he’s telling people, but if Lurie is unhappy with how this team shows out in the postseason, then it becomes an issue that could be worth tracking.”
A New Defensive Coordinator
Matt Patricia obviously isn’t helping the Eagles’ defense at all. It’s been a downward spiral since he came on. Some possible candidates include Buffalo Bills senior defensive assistant Al Holcomb and Baltimore Ravens associate head coach and defensive line coach Anthony Weaver. Time will tell what happens.
A New Offensive Coordinator
Brian Johnson and the Eagles will probably part ways, he’s probably cool with that, because he’s getting plenty of interest from other teams. He’s reportedly interviewing for a bunch of new coaching gigs.
