The housing market is on a roller coaster of sorts. Have been historically high for a long time now, but add to that skyrocketing mortgage rates, and you have quite a confusing situation.
So, is there anywhere in America where you can still find a nice home for under $225,000? The answer is “yes.” The crew at MarketWatch.com has put together a list of “five awesome cities in America where you can still buy a home for less than $225,000.”
“The housing market has proved to be quite the challenge for buyers this year, but in some spots, affordable homes can be had,” the outlet states. “Mortgage rates continue to climb and many predict that this will lead to cooling housing markets across the country as home buying becomes less affordable. If you’re on the market for a home, and you have the flexibility of remote work, there are still major urban centers where you can buy a home for less than $225,000.”
If you want to live in Philadelphia, the good news is that we’re on the list. MarketWatch.com points out that the city is “a thriving metropolis with state of the art museums, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Barnes Foundation, as well as the Walnut Street Theatre, the oldest continually operating theater in the United States. Spend your weekends at the plethora of cultural spaces and parks by the Delaware River, including the Cherry Street Pier and the recently opened Delaware River Trail.” They add that food-wise, “Philadelphia has plenty of options for foodies, including Vernick Food & Drink, which is run by Greg Vernick, a chef trained by Jean-Georges Vongrichten, which showcases American cuisine and wood-fire cooking.
