
Sue Daugherty, the Executive Director of MANNA, discussed the agency which delivers food as medicine to area residents. Originally servicing an HIV/AIDs cliental, MANNA expanded its outreach to other critical illnesses – cancer, renal and cardiac disease and diabetes. They provide three meals a day, seven days a week 52 weeks a year – each month delivering 95,000 meals to those who struggle with serious diseases – all completely free of charge.
Sue also discussed her own career, how she went from nursing, to nutrition science, to designated dietitian to an AIDs provider and then MANNA. She spoke about their volunteers, MANNA volunteers prepare, cook and deliver meals, with shifts of up to 150 a day in their new facilities.
Shut Up and Dance, the one-night-only performance, was also discussed, the annual fundraiser draws dancers from the PA Ballet, BalletX and other troupes, to volunteer a performance to MANNA.
