About Our Hosts:
Marc Collazo: The immortal Jackie Robinson eloquently stated that “life is not important except for the impact it has on other lives.” Those words have guided me in pursuit of my personal and professional pursuits. Government and civic engagement have been my passion since I was a boy knocking on doors in my community with my late-father, in his position as Ward leader in Northeast Philadelphia (a position which I later held).
A lifelong Pennsylvanian Marc is a graduate of George Washington High School, Temple University and the Widener University School of Law, where he caught the public service bug. As the son of a Ward Leader, his father taught him that to help someone is one of the greatest things that one can do, because if you help community member, “you have a friend for life.” By 19 he was serving as a District Aide for a PA State Representative, Years later he would later run for the office himself, losing but gaining valuable experience, he ‘knocked on over 10,000 resident doors; spoke at numerous community meetings and campaign forums to discuss my plans to improve our Commonwealth; managed a campaign staff; raised financial contributions; and handled all aspects of my visual, print and social media components of my election.’
After serving a judicial clerkship, he practiced civil and family, receiving national news attention for his defense of grandparents who lost has custody by being ‘too old.’
This experience led him back to public service, he served as the Chief of Staff for Pennsylvania State Representative, John J. Taylor (177th District and Chairman, House Transportation Committee,) where he spearheaded efforts to take blighted, vacant properties and returning them to productive use. The most gratifying part? “Being able to help over 70,000 constituents, spanning throughout five (5) different neighborhoods. It gave me the pleasure of having, in my father’s words, 70,000 “friends for life.”
In Philadelphia he was a Policy Analyst for former City Councilman At Large, Frank Rizzo. He then put his knowledge of property and building law to great use as the Executive Director of the Mayfair Business Improvement District and Mayfair Community Development Corporation. After bringing multiple accolades he became the inaugural Executive Director of the Fishtown Kensington Area Business Improvement District in January of 2020.
