Philadelphia’s Office of Adult Education

Executive Director, Diane Inverso, discussed the Office of Adult Education (OAE), formerly the Mayor’s Commission on Literacy, how it works with community partners to equip all adults in Philadelphia with the education they need for work, family, and civic engagement.   OAE partners with over 80 literacy and workforce development programs to help the estimated 550,000 adults in the City who need to develop their workforce literacy skills to compete in our knowledge based economy, complete secondary education, or prepare to participate in post-secondary programs.  She discussed the various locations for classes are located, the one-on-one tutoring in math and reading, volunteer opportunities, and the peer support to education professionals they offer.
