Listen in as Pastor Mark engages Dr. Katie Day of the United Lutheran Seminary as she describes her research into Guns and the African American Church. Dr. Day describes her work studying issues of congregational security in religious institutions in general, and in African American Churches in particular. Dr. Day also discusses her interesting book, “Faith on the Avenue: Religion on a City Street,” which describes the history of churches along Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia — churches both large and small, denominational and non-denominational, and Christian and non-Christian. We discuss Dr. Day’s urban anthropological work, which studies religion from a data-driven perspective and uncovers new and fascinating conclusions about our urban churches.
