The Mercer County Library System has put out the call to local amateur photographers for entries in its annual countywide photo contest with the theme "Our Vibrant World."

Open to residents and business workers in Mercer County, the photo competition runs from Aug. 11 to Sept. 15. Cash prizes will be offered for the top three entries in the contest.

According to Community News, participating photographers are invited to submit one unframed, unmounted 5-by-7-inch photograph printed on matte-finish photo paper to their local library branch. Individuals may not use filters, digital retouching, or identifying information on the images.

Following the closure of submissions, each library branch will select three photos that will move forward to a countywide final round, where a panel of experts will judge the submissions. Winners will receive $100 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third.

The library system will announce the winners on Oct. 6. A public reception will take place on Oct. 14 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hickory Corner Branch in East Windsor. All contest photos will be put on display for community viewing.

Photo contest rules and entry forms are available at all library branches and on the library's website.
